Resources for Thought, Prayer and Worship at Home
A collection of resources you may find helpful for prayer and worship at home, gathered during the coronavirus outbreak when the church was not able to hold services in person.
From the Royal School of Church Music
For everyone, wherever you are: a Hymn of the Day, and a Sunday Self-Service — a simple act of worship with music, readings and prayers, changing weekly. Specific resources for Holy Week and Easter were made available in due course, along with a daily vocal warm-ups video — a short session to keep body and voice in good shape for singers, and for anyone who fancies joining in.
From the Church of England
Guidance for the duration of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak, and a range of digital resources for people to engage with at a difficult and challenging time:
- Weekly service broadcasts — available each Sunday through the Church’s Facebook page.
- Time to Pray app — everything needed for Prayer During the Day, with variations according to the day of the week and season of the Church’s year. Free to download.
- Daytime prayer and Night prayer service audio — building on the existing daily prayer feed, covering daytime and night prayer for each day.
- Live streaming services from churches — AChurchNearYou.com lists hundreds of churches offering livestreams of services from across the country.
- #LiveLent: Care for God’s Creation — the Church of England’s Lent campaign, with weekly themes shaped around the first Genesis account of creation, exploring the need to value and protect the abundance God has created. Available via app and daily emails.
- The BBC’s Daily Service and Sunday Worship — radio programmes.
- Prayer for the Day — published daily by the Church of England as audio and text.
- Smart speakers — daily prayer and #LiveLent audio content, accessible via smart speaker apps.
Prayer and Liturgy
Resources are also available covering:
- Prayers and intercessions for personal or group use
- Special prayers for use when it isn’t possible to meet in church
- A simple form of morning and evening prayer that can be downloaded, printed and shared with those remaining at home or unable to access the internet
These resources are offered to help those struggling to find words at a difficult and stressful time, and to enable Christians to worship in solidarity with one another even when it is not possible to gather in church.
