Address

Churchside, Winterton, Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire. Please note that Churchside is a narrow, one-way street. There is no parking, but cars may drop off passengers at the main church entrance if entering Churchside from Queen Street. Cars cannot reach the church directly from Market Street because of the one-way system.

Opening Hours

The church is open especially for visitors every Saturday, and some Wednesdays, from 2–4pm, when welcome staff are on hand to answer any questions. The church is also open frequently for services, concerts and other social activities in our programme — see our This Week and Events Programme pages for details.

At all other times, unfortunately, the church currently has to be kept locked. We plan in future to keep it open during daylight hours. When the church is closed, please contact 01724 734285 for access.

Parking

There is no dedicated parking space for our church. Churchside is a narrow, one-way street where parking is not possible, and parking is also very limited in Queen Street. The landlords of the George Hogg, in Market Street [postcode DN15 9PT], very close to the church, have kindly agreed that visitors may use their car park — if you do, please take the opportunity to call in for a drink or meal. The George Hogg is privately owned and open most days from 9am, but not Mondays and Tuesdays, when it opens later and the gates may be closed. It is easiest to approach from High Street towards Market Street.

A few parking spaces are available on Market Street and more along the High Street, though some of these are time-limited. Roadside parking is possible along West Street, from where a footpath crosses the churchyard opposite the Old School Hall.

Toilet

There is a toilet at the church. Public conveniences are also located at the lower end of Queen Street.

Accessibility Issues

All Saints’ is a medieval building. Wheelchair access is possible via the South Porch, which faces Churchside, and to the toilet at the church, though the ground floor of the tower is at a lower level than the rest of the church.

There are three entrances to the churchyard, with stone paving leading to the South Porch. The main gateway off Churchside and the north-west gate off West Street both have small steps or ramps; the gate at the south-east corner, at the Churchside/Queen Street junction, has no step.

Directions

All Saints’ is located in the centre of Winterton, an ancient settlement with some narrow streets. If travelling by car, we advise finding a parking place and walking to the church, after dropping off passengers in Churchside if needed.

If using the motorway network, leave the M180 via the M181 towards Scunthorpe, then follow signs for the A1077 to Winterton. If crossing the Humber Bridge [toll] via the A15, leave at the first exit after the bridge and follow the A1077 for Winterton.

Public Transport

The nearest bus stop to our church is in High Street, served by the 350 Humber Fastcat (Scunthorpe–Hull) and the 55 (Scunthorpe, Appleby, Winterton). The nearest railway station is at Scunthorpe, seven miles away.

Other Local Attractions

There are many attractions to visit within a short distance of Winterton, including Normanby Hall (a house, country park and farming museum), North Lincolnshire Museum in Scunthorpe, the Saxon church of St Peter’s at Barton on Humber, and the remains of Thornton Abbey Gatehouse.
